A decade of impact: 2025 in review

by Victory Okoyomoh

Last week, many people did the 2016 challenge, sharing pictures from a decade ago alongside ones from today to show how they’ve grown. We’ve got one for you. Can you picture what the Nigerian financial ecosystem looked like in 2015/2016? Spoiler alert: it was starkly different from what we have now.

Back then, cash ruled everything, and not every business could accept digital payments, even if they wanted to. Small businesses were largely excluded from the financial ecosystem. Access to banking and other financial services was limited to urban areas.

Today, the story is different. Businesses of all sizes can now accept digital payments, and Moniepoint has played a vital role in driving this change. As we’ve clocked 10, we’re taking a look at how far we’ve come with some milestones from the past year.

We gave credit where it was due

In 2025, we disbursed 1 trillion naira in credit to thousands of business owners across Nigeria. Among these were essential community services such as provision stores, pharmacies, and supermarkets. Our loans enabled these businesses to scale their operations and reach even more customers, resulting in a 36% increase in transaction value.

We stepped into the MonieWorld

In 2025, we took our mission to the global stage and launched MonieWorld, our remittance product that enables people in the UK send money to family, friends and businesses in Nigeria. With MonieWorld, sending care across borders becomes easier, keeping people connected to home and their loved ones despite distance.

We started a new chapter with Moniebook

We launched Moniebook, a first-of-its-kind, all-in-one product that allows businesses manage payments, sales and inventory in a single platform. Moniebook is already making a significant impact, notably in the oil and gas sector, where ease of payment is essential to keeping the nation moving.

We made money move

From Sokoto to Enugu and Ogun, we powered payments, processing over N30 trillion in payments monthly. This meant that, through us, Nigerians pay for everyday necessities like airtime and provisions, while driving commerce in interesting industries like veterinary and locksmithing. We also helped Nigerians save for everything from “life” to business and even Detty December.

We launched Nigeria’s first informal economy AI chatbot

In 2024, we released our first-ever informal economy report to shed light on Nigeria’s “shadow economy” with data and real stories. In 2025, we took it a step further by launching “M”, Nigeria’s first informal economy AI chatbot. With M, policymakers, regulators and investors can gain unique insight into Nigeria’s informal economy and make data-driven decisions. Have you met M yet? Say hello at informalreport.moniepoint.com

We got recognised

It’s one thing to know you’re doing important work, but having others recognise it feels pretty great too. In 2025, we ranked on a number of important lists, including Time 100’s “Most Influential Companies” and Financial Times’ Africa’s Fastest-Growing Companies (for the 3rd consecutive year). We also got recognised for our impact in banking and financial inclusion by reputable organisations like IBS Intelligence and the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria.

We powered dreams

The story of our success and impact wouldn’t be complete without our DreamMakers, the incredible people who show up every day and put in the work to make financial happiness a reality for every African, everywhere. In 2025, Moniepoint employed over 3,300 people across 19 countries and 5 continents. Did someone say global talent? Yeah, that’s us.

A decade ago, Moniepoint started with a dream. Today, we are powering dreams for businesses and individuals with financial solutions that support their wildest ambitions. It’s been a decade of innovation and impact, but we are still as primed as we were on Day 1.
